Either you love them or you don't.....DURIANS!

I have been trying to find a DURIAN ever since February when I first learned about them.
I heard so much about them stinking to death but tasting like vanilla pudding. The boys are showing you how they look and what it looks like inside of one.

There are puffy pockets all around the DURIAN and Jacob is carefully slicing one of the pockets open.

After you make the slit - then you carefully pry open the pocket to find the treasured fruit inside.

The fruit is actually a little pillow of sweetness.

We are just showing how big the little pillow is. The fruit is very smooth and creamy and really does resemble vanilla pudding.

Well - one of the boys really liked it. The other one couldn't stand the smell and couldn't stand the taste. The last picture shows how Jacob didn't want any part of this fruit. Oh well - now we can say we have tried it. There were actually 6 different pockets of fruit in this durian and Joey and I ended up fighting over them. We thought they were wonderful!

Oh, that's so cool! I would love to find one; may I ask where you found yours? Hey Judy, I noticed your boys look tan and fit(compared to the older pictures). I'm glad its still working for you guys because personally i'm struggling with eating all raw. I need to get back into the swing of things. I'm still having those green/coconut smoothies you intoduce. Thanks ~Jen

Jen - I went to the Asian Culture Center off of the 202 and 44th Street. There is a sign right on the freeway to tell you where to go. There is nothing in English in that store. But the durians are in the freezer section and I just recognized them. I got my coconuts for 99 cents there too. (a case of 9 for $8.99) Email me personally and I'll talk to you about eating raw. judycozza@gmail.com Love you Jen. Maybe we can meet up this week.

What an odd fruit. it looks like the flesh of the fruit surrounds a big avacado-like pit. True?

Maw- the boys look so HOT! Joey is a total stud-muffin. How much weight has he lost?! I want some before and after pictures posted of those boys. Joey is looking much more like Jimmy these days. And Jake, well he is looking so tall and fit too. What handsome brothers I have.

Woot! I knew you'd love Ranch 99 Market. Well, I mean, I didn't know Jacob would hate it...ha! It has a ton of weird and awesome stuff, doesn't it?

Jamie - the fruit is so big and pokey and heavy. Yes - it has a big seed like in an avocado. Yep - Joey does look similiar to Jimmy now and very buff. Green drinks for breakfast...it'll do it every time!

Jana - that Ranch 99 Asian Market was so much fun - although there isn't anything in there that is English. I need a tour guide next time. I only got what I really recognized because I couldn't read any of the labels. Go figure.

We tried one of these at Rachel's house...I had about the same reaction as Jake. It smells like puke. I surely didn't enjoy it, though maybe it was because I was 8 months pregnant and still very sensitive to smells? Probably not...they smell gross.

I was thinking how Joe looks like Jim these days also! He looks FANTASTIC! I can't wait to see him in August!

To be sold in the USA, though, it has to have English ingredients and nutrition listing. So start at the end of one row and just start picking up everything. You'll usually see a little sticker on the back that's got English.

Here's what one of my packages says that I bought there last week (for pineapple candy):

"The gorgeous taste of fully ripened pineapple imposing as a souther island kind crowned in glory is your to enjoy in every soft and juicy Kasugai Pineapple Gummy"

bawhahahahaha

So take your magnifying glass and spend the day!

Great pictures, and I'm so glad you loved it! It's kinda refreshing to know that at least one of you didn't like it though. Sometimes it seems like raw foodists like *anything* raw! LOL!

The lady at the Asian market where I bought mine last week mentioned it's better to get a more rounded one (as opposed to oval/oblong). I can't tell in the pictures what shape yours was, but I thought I'd mention it in case you go back for more. It sounds like you may! I think I'm through with durian after my first experience, but I may nibble on someone else's if given the opportunity. ;)

I am SO curious as to what these smell like! I have never seen one around this area (metro-Boston) but if I do I will buy one right away. It is really stinky?

I can't understand why so many of you people are willing to pay MORE for something you may not even LIKE, and you work so HARD at all these things.
